Network Explorer
Network Explorer is the main administration application for LANBak. The program
allows a network administrator to view the complete backup space distributed across
any number of LANBak backup servers. The administrator can also modify global or
individual policy settings for both clients and servers on the network from a single
admin workstation.
Client computers can be organized into group folders allowing hierarchical management
of nodes on the network.
LANBak 3.2 contains a full reporting system capable of generating on-the-fly reports
at any level on the network tree.
Desktop Preview & Restore
Standard network users can access files in the backup space from their own desktop
without administrator intervention. This allows IT departments to be free
from expensive and time-consuming user-requests to restore lost or previous-version
files from tape.
To preview or restore previous version files from their desktop, the user simply
right-clicks a file or folder from within Windows Explorer and selects 'Network
Backup Versions...' from the popup context menu. A dialog is then shown of all files
available, ready for instant preview and restore.
Users can also preview & restore data on a mapped network drive (the remote
machine must also be running LANBak Client).
Security is maintained at both local and remote levels by native NT file permissions
checking at every point within the LANBak system. This ensures users can only preview
and restore files they have permission to access.
On-Demand Backup
If enabled, users can send files and folders to the backup system 'on-demand' using
the familiar Windows Explorer 'Send To' menu option.
Network administrators can configure each LANBak Server to keep on-demand backups
only for a certain period, allowing controlled management of backup sets created
'on-the-fly'.
